On 13 November 2014, Belgium took over the Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe from Azerbaijan for the next six months.

Other priorities of Belgium will be: the continuation of the reform of the Organisation, started by the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, work in the field of social rights in Europe, the promotion of shared values through culture and education, and cooperation with the Parliamentary Assembly and Congress of the local and regional authorities of the Council of Europe.

The transfer of the chairmanship took place between the Azerbaijani foreign minister Elmar Mammadyarov and Belgian foreign minister Didier Reynders.

Additional information on priorities and activities of Belgium is available on the official Belgian Chairmanship website or on the website of the Council of Europe.

Belgium will hand over the chairmanship to Bosnia and Hercegovina in May 2015.
