Plenary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, 24 – 28 January 2011
Strasbourg – The winter plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe will be held from 24 to 28 January 2011 in Strasbourg.
A report on illicit trafficking in human organs in Kosovo will be among the highlights of the winter plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, along with addresses by the President of Serbia Boris Tadić, the President of Turkey Abdullah Gül, the President of Romania Traian Băsescu and the Prime Minister of Albania Sali Berisha.
Special attention will be given to the situation in the Balkans, covering the protection of witnesses as a cornerstone for justice, the obligation to co-operate in prosecuting war crimes, and reconciliation and political dialogue between the countries of the region. There will be a debate on the protection of journalists’ sources, with the participation of the President of the European Federation of Journalists Arne König.
Two urgent debates have been requested, one on Christians in Iraq and other regions, and one on the situation in Belarus in the aftermath of the Presidential election.
Three members of parliament of the Republic of Slovenia will participate at the event, Darja Lavtižar Bebler, Andreja Rihter in Jakob Presečnik.
