Slovenia became a member of the Council of Europe on 14th May 1993 and quickly asserted itself as a successful member with a recognized high degree of respect for human and minority rights as well as strong rule of law. In 2009, the chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe presented itself both as a particular challenge and an opportunity for Slovenia.
In 2013, we celebrated the 20th anniversary of our membership in the oldest pan-European organization, that we marked on the 10th June 2013 with a concert of the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra lead by the Slovenian conductor Marko Letonja and presence of the President of the Republic of Slovenia Borut Pahor.
