New Convention of the Council of Europe – Convention on the counterfeiting of medical products, 20 October 2011
Strasbourg - A new Council of Europe Convention on the counterfeiting of medical products and similar crimes involving threats to public health will be opened for signature at a conference in Moscow on 28 October 2011.
This Convention, adopted by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe at its 1101 session on 8 December 2010, is the first international legal instrument on the subject to require states party to make criminal offences of manufacturing counterfeit medical products, supplying, offering to supply or trafficking in counterfeit medical products, falsifying documents and manufacturing and supplying medical products without authorisation and marketing medicines without complying with industry standards.
The conference, organised by the Council of Europe and the Ministry of Public Health and Social Development of Russian Federation, and the Federal Service on Surveillance in Healthcare and Social Development, will be opened by the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and the Russian Minister of Public Health and Social Development Tatiana Golikova.
