The Committee of Ministers adopted the Resolution on the implementation of the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities by Austria, 13 June 2012
Strasbourg - The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe adopted, at its 1145th meeting on 13 June 2012, the Resolution on the implementation of the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities by Austria.
Austria ratified the Framework Convention of the Council of Europe for the Protection of National Minorities on 31 March 1998. The adopted resolution ended the third reporting cycle. The opinion on the implementation of the Convention by Austria was prepared by the Advisory Committee of the Framework Convention, composed by independent experts.
The Committee of Ministers called on Austria, among other recommendations, to take resolute steps towards amending the national minority legislation with a view to ensuring consistent and inclusive protection of national minority rights throughout Austria; and to ensure comprehensive and effective consultation with national minority representatives before adopting any amendments to relevant legislation.
