Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, 25 – 29 June 2012
Strasbourg - Summer session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe will be held in Strasbourg from 25 to 29 June 2012. As members of the Assembly also members of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia will participate: Roman Jakič, dr. Andreja Černak Meglič, Polonca Komar in Iva Dimic.
The Assembly will be addressed by Albanian Primer Minister Sali Berisha, Croatian Prime Minister Zoran Milanović, Italian Foreign Affairs Minister Giulio Terzi di Sant'Agata, Icelandic Economic Affairs Minister Steingrmur Sigfusson and President of Tunisia's Constituent Assembly Mustapha Ben Jaafar.
As a Chairman of the Committee of Minsiters Albanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Edmond Haxinasto will present the Communication from the Committee of Ministers.
The Parliamentarians will hold debates on impact of the financial and economic crisis, including a report on the danger of austerity measures for democracy and human rights, as well as social, economic and political implications of the financial crisis on the young generation, with the Slovenian Parliamentarian Roman Jakič as a Rapporteur of the Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy.
Other items on the agenda include the situation of human rights defenders in Council of Europe Member States, multiple discrimination against Muslim women in Europe, the situation of Roma migrants and the honouring of obligations and commitments by Montenegro.
The Assembly will elect eight judges to the European Court of Human Rights and also a new Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe.
