President of the Republic of Slovenia Borut Pahor visits Strasbourg
Strasbourg – on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the membership of Slovenia in the Council of Europe the President of the Republic of Slovenia Borut Pahor took part in the ceremony.
In the light of the visit in Strasbourg the President has met with Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland, with whom he discussed the questions of democracy, rule of law and human rights and the experience of Slovenia in its 20 years of membership to the organization. They also discussed the reform of the organization and the question of the implementation of the Grand Chamber judgment in the case of Kurič vs. Slovenia.
The President has also met with the President of the European Court of Human Right Dean Spilmann, where he reiterated Slovenia’s support for the reform of the Court that is being undertaken as a continuation of the process from Izmir, Brighton and Interlaken, as well as the accession of the European Union to the European Convention on Human Rights.
On Tuesday, 12 June 2013, the President, on the invitation of the President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz, will address the plenary session of the Parliament in Strasbourg. He will present his views on the current developments in the European Union and the prospects for the future, especially in the light of endeavors to deepen integration of its members that are being accelerated by the current financial and economic crisis in Europe and the world.
On this occasion, the President will also meet with the President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz and the Slovenian parliamentarians in the European parliament.
