Slovenia signed the Protocol No. 16 to the European Convention on Human Rights

Strasbourg On 2nd of October 2013 Slovenia signed the Protocol No. 16 to the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms as one of the first seven members of the Council of Europe.

The main purpose of the Protocol No. 16 is relief of backlog of the European Court of Human Rights. The content of the Protocol among others provides the possibility to put a preliminary question of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms by the highest national Court of the member states.

On behalf of the Republic of Slovenia the Protocol was signed by the Ambassador Damjan Bergant, Permanent Representative of Slovenia to the Council of Europe.
