Announcement of the 25th session of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, 29th – 31st October 2013
Strasbourg – The 25th session of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe will take place between 29th and 31st October 2013 in Strasbourg.
The theme of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe in 2013 is “Europe in crisis – challenges to local and regional democracy”.
The representatives will, among other things, discuss the response by local and regional authorities to the economic crisis, migrants’ access to regional labor markets, integration through self-employment and prospects for effective transfrontier cooperation in Europe. Rapporteur on “prospects for effective transfrontier cooperation in Europe” will be Breda Pečan, deputy mayor of Izola.
The Congress will also discuss reports on local and regional democracy in Hungary, Ireland, Denmark, Albania and Ukraine and reports on local elections in Armenia and Macedonia.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Territorial Administration of Armenia Armen Gevorgyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Administration and Regional Development of Romania Liviu Nicolae Dragnea, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Jean-Claude Mignon and Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland will address the session.
