Announcement of the session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, 29th of September – 3th of October 2014
Strasbourg – The autumn session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe will take place from 29 September to 3 October 2014 in Strasbourg.
The debate will focus on the crisis in Ukraine and countering neo-Nazism and xenophobia. An urgent debate on "Threats posed by the ‘Islamic State’ (IS) and violence against Christians and other religious communities" has been requested.
Other important topics will be discussed, including women’s rights and prospects for Euro-Mediterranean cooperation, the alternatives to immigration detention of children and ensuring optimum breast cancer services across Europe.
The Parliamentary Assembly will be addressed by the Speaker of the Norwegian Parliament Olemic Thommessen, the Chairman of the Committee of Ministers and Azerbaijani Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov, OECD Secretary General Angel Gurria and President of the EBRD Suma Chakrabarti.
The Parliamentary Assembly will award the Václav Havel Human Rights Prize.
The delegation of the Parliament of the Republic of Slovenia will also attend the session.
