Winter Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, 26th – 30th of January 2015
Strasbourg – The winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe will take place from 26 to 30 January 2015 in Strasbourg. The important focus of the Session will be on the crisis in Ukraine and further participation of the Members from Russian Federation as the Assembly will examine the credentials of all Members. In April last year, the Assembly decided to suspend the voting rights of the Russian delegation. Among other highlights of the Session there will be a debate following the Paris terrorist attacks, and relations with the European Union, as well as the humanitarian situation in Ukraine and the protection of media freedom in Europe. The Parliamentary Assembly will be addressed by the President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins, the Chairman of the Committee of Ministers and Belgian Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Didier Reynders, the Council of Europe Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland and the Director General of the International Labour Organisation Guy Ryder. The Council of Europe will commemorate the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. The delegation of the Parliament of the Republic of Slovenia will also attend the session.
