Slovenia ratified the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention)
Strasbourg, 5 February 2015 – Ms. Barbara Sušnik, chargée d'affaires a.i. deposited the instrument of ratification of the Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention) to the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Mr. Thorbjørn Jagland. The Convention was opened for signature on 11 May 2011, and entered into force on 1 August 2014. Istanbul Convention is a landmark treaty that sets standards for creating a legal framework at pan-European level to protect women against all forms of violence, and prevent, prosecute and eliminate violence against women and domestic violence. It also establishes a specific monitoring mechanism.
