Ambassador Bergant pays courtesy call to the President of the European Court of Human Rights
Strasbourg, 2 June 2010 – On 1 June, Ambassador Damjan Bergant paid a courtesy call to the President of the European Court of Human Rights, Jean-Paul Costa. The interlocutors discussed the implementation of Protocol 14 and continuing reform of the European Court of Human Rights – the Interlaken Process.
President Costa stressed the positive impact that Slovenia made during its Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe concerning the ratification of Protocol 14 by the Russian Federation and efforts made in preparing the Interlaken conference, including roundtable on methods of protecting the right to a trial within a reasonable time and the short-term reform of the European Court of Human Rights in Bled. Ambassador Bergant pointed out that Slovenia attaches great importance to the functioning of the European Court of Human Rights and intends to continue to focus on reform of the Court, as well as its operation.
