Slovenian visit to European Parliament in Strasbourg
Strasbourg – Slovenians from Austria, Italy and Slovenia visited Strasbourg at the beginning of this week, at the invitation of MEP Lojze Peterle. They observed the live functioning of the European Parliament and familiarised themselves with, among other things, the competences and activities of the European Union and the Council of Europe relating to minorities, culture and cross-border cooperation.
Host MEP Lojze Peterle pointed out that the Euro-parliamentarians focus considerable attention on minorities, and that in a free and freely united Europe, all identities must be recognised and accepted.
The participants were joined by Ambassador Damjan Bergant, Permanent Representative of Slovenia to the Council of Europe, and Barbara Sušnik, Counsellor at the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Slovenia to the Council of Europe, who both presented the organisation's activities in the field of minority rights protection.
