Combating Drug Abuse and Drug Trafficking – Pompidou Group Ministerial Conference in Strasbourg, 3 and 4 November 2010
Strasbourg – On 3 and 4 November 2010, the Co-operation Group to Combat Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Drugs at the Council of Europe, the Pompidou Group, hold a ministerial conference in Strasbourg. The conference entitled “Towards a coherent policy on psychoactive substances” was attended by ministers and experts from some 50 countries. The participants included Ewa Kopacz, Polish Health Minister, Etienne Apaire, French President of the Interministerial Mission against Drugs and Drug Abuse, and Viktor Ivanov, Chairman of the State Anti-Narcotics Committee, Russian Federation.
The conference addressed topics including drug-related risks at the work place, illicit trafficking in legal substances used for the production and trafficking of illegal drugs, and international cooperation in trafficking routes in the Balkans and the Mediterranean.
A delegation of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Slovenia, headed by Ambassador Damjan Bergant, Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe, attended the event.
