Council of Europe creates new Partial Agreement "Cultural Routes"

Strasbourg - Council of Europe has established a new Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes. The Agreement will allow member states and other interested countries to join efforts in developing thematic trans-national cultural routes and foster cultural co-operation, quality tourism and regional development.

The newly established partial agreement will reinforce co-operation with the European Union in this field. Cultural routes are expected to become an important element of the European Tourism Strategy, and in particular of cultural tourism.

The Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes, which builds on the basis of the program from 1987, will be operative as of 1 January 2011. The seat will be in Luxembourg, which already hosts the European Cultural Routes Institute.

Slovenia is one of the founding member states of the new partial agreement, since it considers culture and cultural heritage as extremely important and wishes to further develop its cultural tourism.
