Council of Europe adopts the Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence
Strasbourg - The Committee of Ministers' Deputies of the Council of Europe adopted, at their 1111th meeting on 6 April 2011, the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence. Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia and Office for equal opportunities of the Republic of Slovenia welcomes the adoption of this Convention devoted exclusively to the prevention of this sort of violence.
The Convention is a result of more than two years of negotiations among the Council of Europe Member States. Slovenia had an active role in this process and contributed to the final adoption of the Convention.
The Committee of Ministers' Deputies also agreed to open the Convention for signature by member states at the ministerial session on 11 May 2011 in Istanbul, Turkey.
