Visit of Commissioner for Human Rights Thomas Hammarberg in Slovenia, 7 – 8 April 2011
Strasbourg - The Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe Thomas Hammarberg visited Slovenia on 7 and 8 April 2011. On the occasion of international Roma Day, he inaugurated, together with the Slovenian Human Rights Ombudsman dr. Zdenka Čebašek, a cultural and information center in a Roma settlement in northeastern Slovenia, in Kamenci (municipality Črešnovci).
Commissioner stressed the importance of Slovenia's experience in integrating the Roma for other European countries.
On the occasion of his visit, the Commissioner met also with the President of the Republic dr. Danilo Türk, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Samuel Žbogar, the Minister of the Interior Katarina Kresal, the Minister of Culture Majda Širca, the Minister of Education and Sport dr. Igro Lukšič and representatives of non-governmental organization and Roma community.
